Wow, it's been an eventful last few days and I can't wait to talk about some of the stuff that's been happening... but it'll have to be a couple months from now, hah. Our FOB (Forward Operating Base) is pretty damned cool. I hear it was one of Saddam's mistresses homes back in the day. The whole area is pretty cool with manmade lakes and all. There are a few too many bugs out there though. Me and a few other guys set up some weight equiptment that was left behind also.
Well, it you haven't gotten it yet, here is my mailing address as of now:

So, I'm finally here in Baghdad safe and in good spirits. It sounds like we're going to be getting to work as soon as we get settled in and briefed. It's actually a much prettier country than I expected except for the litter dotting the sides of the road. The airport area is particularly beautiful. There is a manmade lake with a palace in the middle of it and many old middle eastern style buildings and towers around it. Also, palm trees line most of the roads. There are a few structures and infrastructure that are destroyed or in the process of getting restored but most everything is still very cool to look at. I plan on going in with 10 or so other guys for an internet hookup in the future and hopefully I'll be able to post pictures soon - of Kuwait and Iraq.
During the ride up we took a couple of flat tires, but other than that things were uneventful. During our first flat, there were a crapload of kids that came up while we were jacking up the Humvee and mooched a couple of sodas that we had left over from us. We ended up riding out the second flat tire since we were in a fairly urban area and our destination was near. It was interesting driving in Baghdad though, people don't even seem to mind the lanes on the roads. It's the worst driving I've ever seen by far. We passed by one really large accident on the freeway as we were going up and it was suprising that I didn't see any more huge accidents than that one.
Well, I'll report more later w/pictures. There's a lot more to be said than that I suppose, but I'll save it for later when I have pictures.
