I just got back from visiting my old-time friend Rob in Bloomington, Indiana. According to him, the glaciers which covered the midwest back in the day stopped about 20 miles north of his town. There were noticable geographic incongruencies with the rest of Indiana which seem to prove this. The terrain is noticably hillier. The ground is also full of clay. He has been taking his new status as a homeowner seriously and had a large pile of orange dirt to the side of his yard he had displaced while making his own patio. I helped him throw together a patio set he had purchased from a Memorial Day sale at Menards.

Many of the houses in his neighborhood are rundown rentals. That and the fact this was his first serious home project amplified his sense of accomplishment. It's not too bad of a place considering it was a former meth lab.

Speaking of buildings, the campus of the University of Indiana, Bloomington has an odd architectural style. Almost all of the buildings are stone. They're formed in a way which make them look bold and imposing. It was a fairly large campus adjacent to downtown Bloomington.

The drive down there was scenic. The county road wound wildly through the hills and trees of southern Indiana. I watched for deer the entire way since the woods came right up to the road.

I haven't left Minnesota for a year. It's good to get away for awhile.

Another day, a drive to Indiana, then another month full-time in the Army. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy some stellar educational aid benefits, but the thought of living that life again makes me tired. Not to mention the 12 hour car ride to get there.

I'll try making the best of it.
